Lose a Wii, get an EEE!
Thursday 12th June 2008, 12:20 AM

Ive been really bad this month, Ive just sold my Wii to chris, since i dont play it anymore, and with that money plus £80 i won at work, im investing in a beautiful, tiny EEE pc by asus.

Selling laptops for a living, i know which ones sell, and i know for a fact this if you want a laptop by sony or toshiba around the weight of 1kg your looking around the £1000 mark. the sony sony TZ Series and the toshiba 'Portege' will set you back about £1300 to £1500.

Ive seen the ASUS EEE pc a few times since my mate Ka has a pearly white one, and i was impressed that he had it on him, as he casually took it out of his 'non laptop' bag, which is a great feature. You dont need a laptop bag, since it has a 9 inch screen and weighs about 1KG. Amazing, but theres more, it only costs £289.99 and that Does include VAT and P&P.

Theres a few downsides. It has no optical drive but when was the last time you used one of those things? Its all about the USB stick nowdays and i have a dekstop i can share remotely.

I has a 20GB, solid state hard drive, so overall performance should be better. One problem with any PC's nowdays is that it will go through phases of searching the hard drive continuously loading that big program up, Laptops are the worst, no matter what processor speed you have. Solid state should prevent that to a certain extent, but ill see if that theory proves true soon.

It does come pretty full featured though, wifi, webcam with mic, 3 x usb, VGA out, and speakers too. I should be able to get it this friday. KA has been especially nice to lend me his external USB drive, and big thanks for that. As for the EEE review?! watch this space.
